Freyr was highly associated with farming, weather, and as a phallic fertility god, Freyr “bestows peace and pleasure on mortals”.
Freyr is presented as one of the Vanir, the son of the sea god Njörðr, brother of the goddess Freyja. The gods gave him Álfheimr, the realm of the Elves, as a teething present. He rides the shining dwarf-made boar Gullinbursti and possesses the ship Skíðblaðnir which always has a favorable breeze and can be folded together and carried in a pouch when it is not being used. He has the servants Skírnir, Byggvir, and Beyla.
The most extensive Freyr myth relates Freyr’s falling in love with the female jötunn Gerðr. Eventually, she becomes his wife but first Freyr has to give away his magic sword which fights on its own “if wise be he who wields it”. Although deprived of this weapon, Freyr defeats the jötunn Beli with an antler. However, lacking his sword, Freyr will be killed by the fire jötunn Surtr during the events of Ragnarök.

Clergy & Worship of Freyr
Freyr’s clergy wear ornate helms and leather vests, or jerkins, that are often studded. Thick cloaks the color of Freyr’s holy color, bright green, are worn at all times.
As a deity of the sun, Freyr blesses his priests with the ability to harness it’s power. Once per day a cleric of Freyr may create a tiny ball of sunlight that moves with the cleric. This ball is more or less a tiny sun that radiates bright sunshine. It has double the illumination range of a normal light spell and does 1 point of divine damage per cleric level, per round, to creatures harmed by the sun and to all undead. The range of the damaging sphere is 60 feet. The sun ball remains for 5 minutes per cleric level. Although a miniature sun it does no heat damage if touched but if the cleric wishes he may hurl the sun ball at an enemy within sight causing D6 damage per cleric level. The damage is both good and divine. A reflex save of DC 13 + the cleric’s wisdom modifier + 1/2 the cleric’s level halves the damage. Hurling the ball in this fashion causes it to disappear.
Clerics of Freyr receive a +2 insight bonus to diplomacy checks with any elf or fae creatures; further, they receive a +2 insight bonus to any knowledge or survival skill checks relating to weather, elves or fae. These bonuses increase by +1 every 5th level, so +3 at 5th, +4 at 10th, etc.
Freyr’s holy day is the summer equinox when sunlight shines down upon the earth on the longest day of the year. He does not judge his worshipful by where they worship Him, a natural setting is just as good as a temple hall in His eyes.
